Event: Changes in Quarantine Measures Announced
***The Embassy will send STEP messages whenever there are changes to quarantine measures announced by the Chilean government***
As of September 23, the Ministry of Health has confirmed 449,903 cases of COVID-19 in Chile.
The government of Chile has implemented measures to limit the spread of COVID-19. The following new measures were announced by the Chilean government on September 23:
· The imposition of a quarantine for the following comunas (begins Friday, September 25 at 11:00 pm):
o Ercilla (IX Region)
o Lonquimay (IX Region)
o Teodoro Schmidt (IX Region)
o Coyhaique (XI Region)
· The upgrading of the following comunas from Phase 1 (Quarantine) to Phase 2 (Transition). This includes the removal of quarantine from Monday-Friday (begins Monday, September 28 at 5:00 am):
o Pozo Almonte (I Region)
o Mejillones (II Region)
o Antofagasta (II Region)
o La Serena (IV Region)
o Coquimbo (IV Region)
o La Cruz (V Region)
o Quinta Normal (RM)
o Cerro Navia (RM)
o Lo Prado (RM)
o Conchalí (RM)
o Lo Espejo (RM)
o La Pintana (RM)
o Puente Alto (RM)
o Buin (RM)
o Linares (VII Region)
· The upgrading of the following comunas from Phase 2 (Transition) to Phase 3 (Preparation). This includes the lifting of quarantine on the weekends and holidays (begins Monday, September 28 at 5:00 am):
o Lampa (RM)
o Quilicura (RM)
o Lo Barnechea (RM)
o Santiago Centro (RM)
o Estación Central (RM)
o Pedro Aguirre Cerda RM)
o Peñalolén (RM)
o Padre Hurtado (RM)
o Calera de Tango (RM)
o Isla de Maipo (RM)
o Tiltil (RM)
o Talagante (RM)
· The downgrading of the following comunas from Phase 3 (Preparation) to Phase 2 (Transition). This includes the reimposition of quarantines on weekends and holidays (begins Friday, September 25 at 11:00 pm):
o Panguipulli (XIV Region)
o Lanco (XIV Region)

LATAM and American Airlines are currently operating commercial flights between Santiago and the U.S. Contact your airline for any questions regarding rescheduled or cancelled flights. Given the continued availability and expansion of commercial flight options from Chile to the U.S., the Department of State is not currently organizing an evacuation of American citizens from Chile.
