A key supporter of the contest entry was Victoria’s English teacher, Magdalena Muñoz, who urged her students to participate in the contest.

The story behind the Ambassador’s visit to Amankay started in March 2014, shortly after the Ambassador’s arrival in Chile. In honor of a visit by U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, the U.S. Embassy launched a Facebook contest to encourage young people between the ages of 13 – 19 years to suggest places in Chile the Vice President should visit.

The catch was that the entries needed to be done in English. Victoria Flores Lazcano, a student at Amankay School, won the contest and met the U.S. Vice President and took a selfie with him. A key supporter of the contest entry was Victoria’s English teacher, Magdalena Muñoz, who urged her students to participate in the contest.

As a result, the Amankay School submitted numerous great entries. The Ambassador was delighted to visit the school and meet the other students and teachers there and also the mayor of Lampa, Graciela Ortuzar.
