The United States Embassy in Santiago, Chile opens applications for Astronaut Al Worden Endeavour Scholarships to Space Camp 2020! Two high school students and one educator will travel to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center August 14-21.
LOCATION: U.S. Space and Rocket Center, One Tranquility Center, Huntsville, Alabama
DATES: Delegates (students and teachers) MUST be able to attend the entire program, August 14-21. They will depart Santiago for Huntsville, Alabama on August 13 and arrive back in Santiago 22.
COST: The Kallman Foundation Al Worden Endeavor scholarship will cover costs for enrollment and tuition, round-trip international air travel, dormitory accommodations and meals throughout their stay at space camp, and U.S. visas (Chilean passports and related documents are the responsibility of the delegates).
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS:
1) Must be high school students 16 – 18 years of age as of August 14, 2020.
2) Must have excellent English verbal and written skills.
3) Must demonstrate superior academic proficiency (6.0 grade point average).
4) Must demonstrate concrete leadership abilities, solidarity and social maturity through involvement in school and community activities benefiting others.
5) Must demonstrate skills and achievements outside the realm of science and outside the realm of academic pursuits (music, sports, art, others).
6) Must demonstrate a proven curiosity related to science, technology, engineering, and/or math (STEM) as detailed through participation in such activities as national chemistry congresses, regional astronomy camps, school robotics contests, laboratory internships, university summer courses, innovation fairs, engineering projects, and similar.
7) Must hold Chilean citizenship or permanent residence.
TO APPLY, student candidates must complete this online Delegate Cover Sheet and also upload a curriculum in English detailing academic achievements and extra-curricular activities with a specific focus on science and technology.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR TEACHERS:
1) Must be a teacher of science, technology, mathematics or related area.
2) Must have excellent English verbal and written skills.
3) Must demonstrate innovation, leadership, and mentoring that encourage students to participate in formal and informal STEM learning events such as congresses, science camps, school contests and projects, laboratory internships, university summer courses, innovation fairs, and similar.
4) In addition to the teacher program, must agree to travel with the students and fulfill the responsibilities incumbent upon them as chaperone throughout the student program.
5) Must hold Chilean citizenship or permanent residence.
TO APPLY, teachers must complete this online Delegate Cover Sheet and also upload a curriculum in English detailing background, achievements and extra-curricular activities and programs through which they have encouraged students in the pursuit of learning in areas of science, technology and mathematics.
