Event: Changes in Quarantine Measures Announced

***The Embassy will send STEP messages whenever there are changes to quarantine measures announced by the Chilean government***

As of August 30, the Ministry of Health has confirmed 408,426 cases of COVID-19 in Chile. 

The government of Chile has implemented measures to limit the spread of COVID-19. The following new measures were announced by the Chilean government on August 30:

·         The introduction of quarantines for the following comunas (begins Wednesday, September 2 at 5:00 am):

o    Santa Cruz (VI Region)

o    Hualqui (VII Region)

o    Chillán (VII Region)

o    Chillán Viejo (VII Region)

·         The upgrading of the following comunas from Phase 2 (Transition) to Phase 3 (Preparation). This includes the removal of quarantine on the weekends, as well as the re-opening of outdoor dining in restaurants at 25% capacity (begins Wednesday, September 2 at 5:00 am):

o    Los Andes (V Region)

o    San Felipe (V Region)

o    Vitacura (RM)

o    Las Condes (RM)

o    Providencia (RM)

o    Ñuñoa (RM)

o    San José de Maipo (RM)

·         The upgrading of the following comunas from Phase 1 (Quarantine) to Phase 2 (Transition). This includes the removal of quarantine Monday-Friday (begins Wednesday, September 2 at 5:00 am):

o    Rengo (VI Region)

LATAM and American Airlines are currently operating commercial flights between Santiago and the U.S. Contact your airline for any questions regarding rescheduled or cancelled flights. Given the continued availability and expansion of commercial flight options from Chile to the U.S., the Department of State is not currently organizing an evacuation of American citizens from Chile.
