Event: Changes in Quarantine Measures Announced

***The Embassy will send STEP messages whenever there are changes to quarantine measures announced by the Chilean government***

As of October 1, the Ministry of Health has confirmed 464,750 cases of COVID-19 in Chile.

The government of Chile has implemented measures to limit the spread of COVID-19. The following new measures were announced by the Chilean government on October 1:

·         The imposition of a quarantine for the following comunas (begins Saturday, October 3 at 5:00 am):

o    Coihueco (XVI Region)

o    Loncoche (IX Region)

o    Carahue (IX Region)

o    Puerto Saavedra (IX Region)

o    Osorno (X Region)

o    Frutillar (X Region)

o    San Juan de la Costa (X Region)

o    Río Negro (X Region)

·         The following comunas move to Phase 2 (Transition). This includes the removal of quarantine from Monday-Friday (begins Saturday, October 3 at 5:00 am). Note: comunas in bold are being downgraded from Phase 3 to Phase 2, and will now be subject to quarantine on the weekends and holidays:

o    Alto Hospicio (I Region)

o    Iquique (I Region)

o    Copiapó (III Region)

o    Tierra Amarilla (III Region)

o    Ovalle (IV Region)

o    Calera (V Region)

o    Renca (RM)

o    Paine (RM)

o    Santa Cruz (VI Region)

o    Teno (VII Region)

o    Maule (VII Region)

o    Chillán (XVI Region)

o    Chillán Viejo (XVI Region)

o    Río Bueno (XIV Region)

o    Corral (XIV Region)

o    Valdivia (XIV Region)

o    Paillaco (XIV Region)

o    Angol (IX Region)

o    Renaico (IX Region)

o    Temuco (IX Region)

o    Padre las Casas (IX Region)

o    Villarrica (IX Region)

o    Lautaro (IX Region)

o    Galvarino (IX Region)

o    Nueva Imperial (IX Region)

o    Victoria (IX Region)

o    Cunco (IX Region)

o    Chol Chol (IX Region)

·         The upgrading of the following comunas from Phase 2 (Transition) to Phase 3 (Preparation). This includes the lifting of quarantine on the weekends and holidays (begins Monday, October 5 at 5:00 am):

o    Tocopilla (II Region)

o    Colina (RM)

o    Huechuraba (RM)

o    Recoleta (RM)

o    Quinta Normal (RM)

o    Cerrillos (RM)

o    El Bosque (RM)

o    Curacaví (RM)

o    María Pinto (RM)

·         The establishment of sanitary cordons for the following locations (begins Friday, October 9 at 6:00 pm until Monday, October 12 at 11:00 pm). Interregional permisos will not be valid to cross these sanitary cordons:

o    Metropolitan Region

o    Gran Valparaíso

o    Gran Concepción

o    Temuco/Padre las Casas

  • Beginning Friday, October 2, curfew for the Magallanes Region (including Punta Arenas) will be from 8:00 pm to 5:00 am

LATAM and American Airlines are currently operating commercial flights between Santiago and the U.S. Contact your airline for any questions regarding rescheduled or cancelled flights. Given the continued availability and expansion of commercial flight options from Chile to the U.S., the Department of State is not currently organizing an evacuation of American citizens from Chile.
