Event: Changes in Quarantine Measures Announced

***The Embassy will send STEP messages whenever there are changes to quarantine measures announced by the Chilean government***

As of December 17, the Ministry of Health has confirmed 578,732 cases of COVID-19 in Chile.

The government of Chile has implemented measures to limit the spread of COVID-19. The following new measures were announced by the Chilean government on December 17:

  • The upgrading of the following comunas from Phase 1 (Quarantine) to Phase 2 (Transition). This includes the removal of quarantine from Monday-Friday (begins Monday, December 21 at 5:00 am):
    • Padre Las Casas (IX Region)
    • Temuco (IX Region)
    • Freire (IX Region)
    • Chonchi (X Region)
    • Quemchi (X Region)
    • Queilen (X Region)
  • The upgrading of the following comunas from Phase 2 (Transition) to Phase 3 (Preparation). This includes the lifting of quarantine on the weekends and holidays (begins Monday, December 21 at 5:00 am):
    • Iquique (I Region)
    • Santa Juana (XIII Region)
    • Collipulli (IX Region)
    • Toltén (X Region)
    • Lango Ranco (XIV Region)
    • Panguipulli (XIV Region)
    • Futrono (XIV Region)
    • Puqueldón (X Region)
    • Castro (X Region)
    • Hualaihué (X Region)
  • The downgrading of the following comunas from Phase 3 (Preparation) to Phase 2 (Transition). This includes the reimposition of a quarantine on the weekends and holidays (begins Saturday, December 19 at 5:00 am):
    • Romeral (VII Region)
    • San Javier (VII Region)
    • Curico (VII Region)
    • Teno (VII Region)
    • Lumaco (IX Region)
  • Beginning Monday, December 21, curfew for the following comunas will begin at 10:00 pm instead of 8:00 pm:
    • Osorno (X Region)
    • Puerto Montt (X Region)
