International Earth Day 2019

International Mother Earth Day
Earth Day 2018 will focus on mobilizing the world to end plastic pollution.

Earth Day was first celebrated in the United States in 1970 and is organised by the Earth Day Network. Its mission is to broaden and diversify the environmental movement worldwide and to mobilize it as the most effective vehicle to build a healthy, sustainable environment, and protect the Earth for future generations.

Earth Day Network, the organization that leads Earth Day worldwide on April 22, announced that Earth Day 2019 will focus in ”Protecting our Species”. The goals are:

  • Educate and raise awareness about the accelerating rate of extinction of millions of species and the causes and consequences of this phenomenon.
  • Achieve major policy victories that protect broad groups of species as well as individual species and their habitats.
  • Build and activate a global movement that embraces nature and its values.
  • Encourage individual actions such as adopting plant based diet and stopping pesticide and herbicide use.
