General Demonstration Alert
Location: Metropolitan Region of Santiago and other major cities throughout Chile
Event: From September 9-11, there is the possibility of protests related to the 50thanniversary of Chile’s September 11, 1973, military coup in the Santiago Metropolitan Regionand in some outlying communities of the Metropolitan Region.
Prior protests in Santiago and around the country have been spontaneous and mobile with incidents of violence. Monitor local media for the most up-to-date information regarding active protests.
American citizens who require emergency consular services are advised to contact the U.S. Embassy after-hours number from Friday, September 8, 1700, until the opening of business on Monday, September 11, 0830.

· Monitor local media for updates.
· Avoid crowds.
· Avoid demonstrations.
· Keep a low profile.
· Be aware of your surroundings.
· Carry proper identification.
