NBA Hall of Fame Star and WNBA Figure to Visit Chile

The State Department’s Sports Envoy program will pair basketball Hall of Famer Alex English with WNBA star Candice Wiggins for a week-long series of clinics and engagements in Santiago and Concepcion, Chile from November 16-22.

In cooperation with the NBA and WNBA, the State Department’s Sports United Division of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs will send English and Wiggins to Chile for a series of workshops, clinics and speaking engagements.  The weeklong schedule will connect the American sports stars with Chilean youth through leadership and team-building activities, and on-court instruction.

The NBA’s most prolific scorer during the 1980s, Alex English was named to eight NBA All-Star teams, his number 2 jersey was retired by the Nuggets, and he was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1997.

Candice Wiggins currently plays for the Los Angeles Sparks. She played her college basketball at Stanford University, where she graduated as the all-time leading scorer in Stanford and Pac-10 women’s basketball history.
