Richard Glenn takes office as Chargé d’Affaires at Embassy Santiago

Richard H. Glenn, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, took up his duties as Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Santiago, Chile in August 2020.   He most recently served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.  

As Deputy Assistant Secretary, Mr. Glenn supervised programs that combat illicit drugs and organized crime and support law enforcement and the rule of law. He oversaw the State Department’s Air Wing, which provides aviation services to U.S. Missions in Iraq and Afghanistan and provides technical and operational assistance to partner nation aviation programs in Latin America.  

Since joining the State Department as a Foreign Service Officer in 1999, Mr. Glenn served as vice-consul in Guayaquil, Ecuador; General Services Officer in South Africa; the Czech Republic; and Argentina; and head of security assistance programs in Mexico. He speaks Spanish and Czech. 

Mr. Glenn is a native of the State of California. He is joined in Chile by his wife, Holly, a high school Spanish teacher and native of the State of New Mexico. They have two college-age daughters, Anna and Elly, who attend their parent’s alma mater, Brigham Young University.
