Routine Messages for U.S. Citizens: Elimination of Federal Benefits Inquiries via Telephone

Elimination of Federal Benefits Inquiries via Telephone

The U.S. Embassy American Citizen Services Unit wishes to inform all U.S. Citizens and beneficiaries of the Social Security Administration, Veterans Affairs, and Office of Personnel Management that beginning on May 16 any Federal Benefits inquiries must be done through email (santiagofbu@state.gov) or an in-person appointment at the Embassy.  All appointments must be scheduled online by visiting:http://chile.usembassy.gov/appointments.html.  If a Federal Benefits inquiry is received via email and requires a follow-up phone call, a mutually convenient time will be arranged for the phone call.  All services offered by our American Citizen Services Unit are provided by appointment only.

If you arrive at the consulate without an appointment, you will be asked to return after securing an appointment.  Thank you for your cooperation with this policy which will ensure that all services are offered in an efficient and fair manner.
