Please note that you are required to provide your Social Security Number (SSN) when applying for or renewing a U.S. passport. If you have never been issued a SSN, you must enter NONE in box #5 of the application form. A passport application may be denied if you fail to provide a valid SSN (if you were issued one) or willfully, intentionally, negligently or recklessly provide incorrect or invalid SSN.
If you can’t remember your SSN, you will encounter a delay with the processing and/or denial of your passport application. Please contact the Regional Federal Benefits Unit located at the U.S. Embassy in San Jose using the online form for information about obtaining a new or replacement Social Security number and card before scheduling your appointment for passport renewal with the U.S. Embassy in Santiago.
