Youth Ambassadors Program for Chile

The Youth Ambassadors Program for Chile & Argentina is a three week youth leadership exchange during March 2019 based in the United States for 13 Argentine teenagers, 13 Chilean teenagers ages 15-18 and 4 adult mentors (two from each country). Exact program dates from March 14 to April 1, 2020.

The Youth Ambassadors Program with Argentina and Chile is a 3-week leadership exchange in the United States for teenagers ages 15-18 and adult mentors from Argentina and Chile. The program provides full scholarships for participants to take part in cultural-educational programming focused on civic engagement and social entrepreneurship.

Sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State, the program aims to develop a cadre of young adults throughout the Americas who have a strong sense of civic responsibility, a commitment to their communities, an awareness of current and global issues, and strong interpersonal leadership skills. The program aims to promote mutual understanding, respect, and collaboration between people in the United States and other countries of the Western Hemisphere.

What is covered? There is no application fee for applicants.
The United States Government will pay for international transportation to and from the United States, domestic transportation in the United States and Chile, orientations, program and visa fees and administration, site visits and seminars, lodging and meals, some cultural activities, educational materials, accident and sickness insurance.

Participants will stay with volunteer host families and in conference centers. Two highly qualified Chilean adult mentors will also be selected to accompany the students. Participants are responsible for expenses related to the application process (copying, mailing, photographs, etc.), passport fees and spending money for souvenirs and other items in the United States.

Who is eligible to apply?

All teen applicants must:
• Be a citizen and resident of the country that they are applying to represent
• Be between the ages of 15 – 18 during the US exchange in March 2020
• Have at least one year of high school left after April 2020
• Demonstrate leadership potential and community involvement
• Have no previous travel to the US and limited other international travel
• Have permission from both parents/legal guardians to participate in the 3-week program

All adult mentor applicants must:
• Be a citizen and resident of the country that they are applying to represent
• Actively be working with youth in either a high school or community setting
• Be willing and able to meet periodically with selected students from their city/region during the 2020/2021 academic year to support and monitor their follow-on work

Selection process
• The process consists of two stages: Online Application (written) and Personal Interview in English.
• Applicants who pass the first stage of selection will be contacted for the personal interview during the month of December 2018.

Due to the large number of requests it will not be possible to contact everyone. Therefore, if you have not been contacted during the month of December, you can assume that you have not been selected.
